How to spot recruitment scams in Hong Kong
Verify employers and protect your personal and financial information.

Verify independently
Find contact details on the company’s official website yourself and confirm the vacancy and recruiter. Watch for impersonated company names and lookalike websites: a logo and job title in a message do not establish the sender’s identity.
Watch for payment and data requests
Be cautious about upfront fees, receiving transfers for someone else, buying products or requests for online banking credentials. Do not share identity documents or bank details before verifying the recipient; do not disclose online banking passwords or one-time passwords to anyone. Do not install remote-control software at a stranger’s request.
If you suspect a scam
Stop transfers and communication, preserve messages and transaction records, and contact your bank and the police promptly. Use Hong Kong Police Scameter to check suspicious phone numbers, URLs or payment accounts, or call the 24-hour Anti-Scam Helpline 18222. No record does not mean the contact is safe.
