How to write a Hong Kong CV that makes your experience clear

Organise your CV around the role and make language skills easy to understand.

Start with the job description

Identify responsibilities, essential skills and language requirements separately. Open with a short summary of relevant experience, followed by the work or projects that best support your application. Graduates can use coursework and internships.

Explain your contribution

For each example, explain the task, your action and the result. Use numbers you can verify; when no metric is available, describe the deliverable, collaborators or improvement. Include only achievements you can explain in an interview.

Languages and format

Describe your spoken Cantonese, English and Mandarin honestly, together with your Chinese and English reading and writing skills. Check contact details, dates and the final file before sending it in the format requested by the employer.

How do I tailor a Hong Kong CV to a job description?

Separate the role’s main responsibilities, essential skills and preferred criteria. Move your most relevant real work or projects into a prominent position, and explain the context, your action and a verifiable outcome. Do not claim a skill you lack or invent figures to match keywords.

What if I have no Hong Kong work experience?

Use internships, coursework, volunteering or work in another location to demonstrate transferable skills, making your own contribution clear. Explain your actual language ability and work eligibility where relevant; keep identity and visa numbers off a public CV.
