Retail jobs in Hong Kong: check duties and shifts
Assess customer service, scheduling and compensation before accepting a role.
Clarify store duties
Ask whether the work includes checkout, replenishment, stock and sales targets or focuses on customer service. Check the location, standing time, required languages and new-starter training against your needs.
Check scheduling and pay
Confirm expected weekly hours, shifts and public holiday arrangements, base pay and commission calculations. Ask the employer about shift notice, overtime and transport before accepting.
Prepare a service example
Choose a real example of customer communication or teamwork and explain how you understood a need, addressed the issue and followed up. Events or volunteering can provide useful examples. The Labour Department publishes a retail employment ordinance guide.
