Understand the General Employment Policy and check which immigration route applies.

Check the right route
The General Employment Policy covers eligible professionals with skills or experience needed in Hong Kong and normally requires a confirmed offer at application. Eligible recent graduates applying under IANG do not necessarily need an offer at application; non-recent graduates face different conditions. Mainland Chinese residents should generally check the Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals or another applicable route. Nationality and residence exceptions follow current Immigration Department rules.
Prepare the offer and evidence
The department lists a genuine vacancy, confirmed job offer, relevant qualifications or experience and remuneration among its considerations. Applicants and employers should prepare documents under current guidance; each case is assessed individually.
Agree a realistic start date
Discuss your present status and proposed start date with your employer and verify your conditions of stay. Do not assume you may begin work before permission is granted. Contact the Immigration Department for case-specific guidance.
