Communicating with your manager in your first week

Agree priorities, share progress and keep track of open questions.

Align on priorities

Ask your manager about the most important first-week tasks, expected outcomes and deadlines. Write down your understanding and confirm it briefly when needed rather than scheduling work on assumptions.

Agree how to share updates

Learn the team’s normal channels for messages, documents and meetings. When blocked, explain what you have tried, what help you need and the effect on timing.

Track open questions

Record account access, processes, key contacts and unresolved items. Set an appropriate time to ask grouped questions and update your notes when you receive answers.
