Hong Kong hiring timeline: from application to offer
Understand common hiring stages and follow up using the employer’s timeline.
Know the possible stages
Hiring may include application screening, a phone conversation, interviews, a skills assessment, reference checks and a written offer. Processes and timelines vary and not every role includes every stage.
Ask about the next step
Ask what happens next, what to prepare and when you might hear back. Record the date and contact. If the employer’s stated date has passed, you might write: “Hello, I am following up on last week’s interview. Is there an update, or anything else I can provide? Thank you.” Timelines vary by employer.
Manage concurrent applications
Avoid relying on verbal progress alone. Until you receive and review written terms, continue other applications if appropriate. If deadlines conflict, explain your situation and ask recruiters about timing.
