Rest days and shift arrangements in Hong Kong jobs
Check rest days, rosters and whether rest days are paid.
Ask about the roster
Find out how many days are normally worked each week, whether rest days are fixed or rostered, and when schedules are published. For shift work, ask how changes and notice are handled.
Check rest-day eligibility
Employees under a continuous contract are entitled to one rest day in every seven days, in addition to statutory holidays. Whether a rest day is paid is agreed between employer and employee. Consult Labour Department guidance for the applicable rules and exceptions.
Distinguish leave and overtime
Rest days, statutory holidays, annual leave and overtime have different arrangements. Review the contract and workplace policies, and keep records of rosters, hours and pay if questions arise.
